Sony has designed the BRAVIA® Televisions software update process to be customer friendly. This software update (version v9.406) provides the following benefits:

Improvements over version v9.310:

  • Improved performance and stability of the Internet features
  • Improved stability of the picture quality for playback of video content via the USB connection

Note: This update is only for televisions sold in Brazil, Chile, Peru, and Venezuela.

Important Notes

  • WARNING!! After performing this update, it is not possible to return to or install a previous version of the system software. By downloading and installing this update, you acknowledge that you understand this update cannot be reversed.
  • WARNING!! Please follow the upgrade instructions carefully. Failure to follow the instructions may interrupt the upgrade process and may cause the TV to be unresponsive or require repair.
  • WARNING!! Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unresponsive or require repair.
  • All user settings are retained during the firmware update.
  • It is normal for the TV set to restart during the update process. The TV set may take longer than usual to restart as it is installing the new firmware.
  • To download the update, a USB storage device, such as a Sony® Micro Vault® device, or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device.   • It is highly recommended that you print out these instructions for use as a reference during the installation process.

How to Check if You Need the Update

Please follow the steps below to check your television's software version to determine if it needs this software update:

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. On the TV remote control, press the "HOME" button to open the TV Home Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select the Settings icon Settings, and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  4. Use the arrows to highlight the Setup icon Product Support Icon, and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  5. Use the arrows to highlight "Product Support", and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  6. Use the arrows to highlight "Contact Sony", and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  7. Check the Software Version displayed on the Contact Sony screen. If your software version is v9.406 or higher, your TV does not need this update.

Decide How to Get the Update

There are two ways to obtain the software update:
  1. Network Download - If your television is connected to the Internet, you can automatically receive software updates when configured with the Software Updates set to On. To view or change your Software Update settings, use the following procedure.
    Note: Your BRAVIA television may have been configured with the Software Update function set to "On" during the initial setup.
    1. On the TV remote control, press the "HOME" button to open the TV Home Menu.
    2. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select the Settings icon Settings.
    3. Use the arrows Arrows to select the Setup icon Setup, and then select "Software Update".
    4. At the "Software Update" screen, select "On" to choose the option to download the software automatically.
      Note: Selecting "Off" will disable the automatic software update feature.
  2. Download the Update - Click the "Download Now" icon on this page to download the update to your computer and then follow the instructions below to install the update on your TV.

    IMPORTANT: If you decide to download the update, a USB storage device, such as a Sony Micro Vault device or something similar, is required to perform the update. Sony is aware that not all USB storage devices are compatible with our TVs. If you are using a USB device for playback of photos, music, or videos on your TV, the same USB device type should work for the update. If the software update is not successful after following the instructions, you may need to format your device to the FAT32 file system, or use a different device. Download and Transfer the Update File to Your USB Storage Device

  1. Download the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference) on your computer.
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and verify that the size of the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file is 90,062,907 bytes.
    1. Right-click the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file, and click "Properties".
    2. On the "sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip Properties" screen, verify that the "Size:" listed is "85.8 MB (90,062,907 bytes)".
      Note: The "Size on disk:" listed may be different. That is normal.
    3. If the file size is different than the "90,062,907 bytes", please download the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file again.
  3. Extract the update file from the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file.
    • For Microsoft® Windows Vista®, Windows® 7, or Windows 8 operating system:
      1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file, and then click "Extract All.

        Note: For Windows 8, the default settings for Internet Explorer® will save the file in the Downloads folder. To locate the Downloads folder, click the "Desktop" tile from the Start screen and then locate the downloaded file using Windows Explorer.
      2. At the "Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders" window, click "Extract"
      3. A new folder will be created called "sony_dtv0270000b700b_00000402"
    • For Windows XP operating system:
      1. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and right-click the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file, and then click "Extract All.
      2. At the "Extraction Wizard" dialog box, click "Next".
      3. Click "Next".
      4. Click "Finish".
      5. A new folder will be created called "sony_dtv0270000b700b_00000402"
    • For Mac OS® X operating system:
      1. Go to the location where the file was downloaded and double-click the sony_tvupdate_2013_9406_lsf_auth.zip file.
      2. A new folder will be created called "sony_dtv0270000b700b_00000402"
  4. Connect a compatible USB storage device to your computer. View formatting instructions and the list of compatible USB storage devices.
  5. Transfer the update folder to the USB storage device:
    • For Windows operating system: Go to the directory where the folder was created, right-click the sony_dtv0270000b700b_00000402 folder and, from the menu, click "Send To...", and then click the drive (EX: Removable Disk E:) that represents your USB device. The update folder will be copied onto your USB device.
    • For Mac OS X operating system: Drag and drop the sony_dtv0270000b700b_00000402 folder to the root folder of the USB device.
    Note: The update will not be performed if the file is not copied to the root directory of the USB device or if the name of the file is modified.
  6. Remove the USB device from your computer.
  7. Please continue to the next section.

Update Verification (optional)

Updating the Software

The software update takes up to three minutes to complete. During the update process, the screen on your BRAVIA television will display progress information, or may be blank. This is normal. Please do not remove the USB storage device until the update is complete.

WARNING! Do not power off the TV or disconnect it from the AC power source during the upgrade process. Loss of power during the installation of the firmware upgrade may cause the TV to be unusable and require repair.

WARNING! Do not press any button, except as instructed, until the update is complete. Doing so may damage your TV and make it unusable and require service.

Make sure no other USB devices are connected to the TV before starting the firmware update.

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. Insert the USB storage device containing the update file into USB port located on the side panel of the TV.
    Note: The USB storage device can only be inserted into the USB port slot one way.
  3. On the TV remote control, press the "HOME" button to open the TV Home Menu.
  4. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select the Settings icon Settings, and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  5. Use the arrows to highlight the Setup icon Product Support Icon, and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  6. Use the arrows to highlight "Software Update", and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  7. Use the arrows to highlight "USB", and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  8. A series of different messages will appear on the TV set. Please follow the on screen instructions.
  9. During the update the PIC OFF/TIMER indicator slowly blinks amber and the STANDBY indicator is red. After several minutes, the "System update complete" message displays and the TV will automatically turn on to complete the update.
  10. CAUTION: During the firmware installation process, do not remove the USB device, turn off the TV, or disconnect the TV from the power supply.

  11. After the firmware update is finished and the TV powers on, it is safe to remove the USB device from the TV.
  12. You may delete the update file from the USB device, or reformat the USB device.

    The update process is now complete.


  13. Note: If either message "An error occurred during the software update" or "Software cannot be updated using this USB device" is displayed on the TV screen, please proceed to the following procedure for a possible solution:
    1. Verify your USB device is in good working order and perform the "Download and Transfer" process again.
    2. Press the "POWER" button on the TV to power off the TV.
    3. Press the "POWER" button on the TV again to power on the TV.
    4. Perform the "Updating the Software" process again.
      Note: If the message "No newer version of the TV software was found" is displayed on the TV screen, your TV already has the newer firmware installed.

Please follow the steps below to verify that the software was successfully updated:

  1. Power on the TV.
  2. On the TV remote control, press the "HOME" button to open the TV Home Menu.
  3. On the remote control, use the arrows Arrows to select the Settings icon Settings, and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  4. Use the arrows to highlight the Setup icon Product Support Icon, and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  5. Use the arrows to highlight "Product Support", and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  6. Use the arrows to highlight "Contact Sony", and then press the EXECUTE EXECUTE Button button.
  7. Check the Software Version displayed on the Contact Sony screen. If your software version is v9.406, the update was successful.
