The DVBK2000.EXE file is an executable program which will copy files onto the computer in order to correct the following issue:The drivers and DV Application software included on the original DVBK-2000 installation CD are not compatible with the Microsoft® Windows® 98 operating system. The DVBK2000.EXE file contains the updated drivers and DV Application software required for proper operation under Windows® 98.The serial number for the DVBK 2000 is located on the capture card. This serial number will be necessary to complete the installation of the Sony DV Application software. Please write down this serial number for reference.

This procedure is broken into the following sections:
Section I. Create A SONYDV Directory On The Hard Drive
Section II. Download The DVBK2000.EXE Update

Section V. Install The DVBK2000.EXE Update

Section I. Create A SONYDV Directory On The Hard Drive
  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and click MS-DOS Prompt.
  2. At the C:\Windows> prompt, type:
    MD C:\SONYDV
    and click OK. This will create a directory on the hard drive named SONYDV.
  3. Click the X in the top-right corner of the DOS box to close it.

Section II. Download The DVBK2000.EXE Update
  1. Download the DVBK2000.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
  2. Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the DVBK2000.EXE file to begin the installation.
  3. A DOS window will appear and 16 files will be extracted in the directory where the file was downloaded.
  4. Click the X in the top-right corner of the "Finished - DVBK2000" box to close it.

Section III. Remove DVBK2000 and PCI Device Manager
  1. If the DVBK 2000 card IS NOT already physically installed in the computer, skip to step 10. Otherwise, continue with step 2.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  3. In the "Control Panel" window, double-click the System icon.
  4. At the "System Properties" window, click the Device Manager tab.
  5. In Device Manager, scroll down and locate the entry for "Sound, video and game controllers".
  6. If there is a plus (+) in front of the "Sound, video and game controllers" entry, click the plus to expand it.
  7. If "Sony DVBK-2000" is listed under "Sound, video and game controllers," follow these steps to remove it. Otherwise skip to step 8.
    1. Click the entry for "Sony DVBK-2000" to highlight it.
    2. Click the Remove button to delete the "Sony DVBK-2000" entry.
    3. At the "Confirm Device Removal" window, click OK.
  8. In Device Manager, search for the entry for "Other devices." If there is an entry for "Other devices" under Device Manager, follow these steps to remove it. Otherwise skip to step 9.
    1. If there is a plus (+) in front of the "Other devices" entry, click the plus to expand it.
    2. If "PCI Card" or "PCI FireWire (IEEE 1394)" is listed under "Other devices," click the "PCI Card" or "PCI FireWire (IEEE 1394)" entry to highlight it.
      NOTE: If there is no entry for "PCI Card" or "PCI FireWire (IEEE 1394)" then skip to step 9..
    3. Click the Remove button to delete the highlighted entry.
    4. At the "Confirm Device Removal" window, click OK.
  9. Click the OK or Close button at the bottom of the "System Properties" window to close it.
  10. Shut down the system.
    1. Click Start and click Shut Down.
    2. Select "Shut down" and click OK.

Section IV. Install The DVBK2000 Card
The procedure below requires that you be logged into Windows 2000 using a user account with administrator rights.
  1. If the DVBK capture card is not installed, follow the instructions provided with the card to install it in an available PCI slot.
    NOTE: If the capture card is already installed in a PCI slot, it is not necessary to remove and reinstall it. Continue with Section V. below..
    NOTE: The serial number for the DVBK 2000 is located on the capture card. This serial number will be necessary to complete the installation of the Sony DV Application software. Please write down this serial number for reference. .

Section V. Install The DVBK2000.EXE Update
The procedure below requires that you be logged into Windows 2000 using a user account with administrator rights.
  1. Once the DVBK 2000 capture card is installed, start the computer.
  2. When Windows 98 starts, the capture hardware will be detected.
  3. At the "Add New Hardware Wizard" window, click Next.
  4. At the "What do you want Windows to do?" screen, click to select "Search for the best driver for your device" and then click Next.
  5. At the "Windows will search for new drivers" screen, click to check the box in for "Specify a location."
  6. In the "Specify a location" box, type:
    C:\SONYDV
    and click Next.
  7. At the "Windows has found an updated driver" screen, confirm that "The updated driver" is selected and click Next.
  8. At the "Windows driver file search for this device" screen, click Next.
  9. At the "Windows has finished installing the software" screen, click Finish.
  10. Click Start and click Run.
  11. At the "Run" window, type:
    C:\Sonydv\Setup.exe
    and click OK. Please wait while the installation for Sony DV Application starts.
  12. At the "Sony DV Application Setup" window, click Next.
  13. At the "User Registration" window, type the (User) Name, Company, and Serial (Number) in the appropriate boxes.
    NOTE: The DVBK 2000 serial number is located on the capture card..
  14. Once the information fields are filled, click Next.
  15. At the "Registration Confirmation" box, confirm that the information displayed is correct and click Next.
  16. At the "Choose Destination" window, click Next to use the default path (C:\SonyDVapp).
  17. At the "Program Folder Selection" window, click Next to use the default folder name (Sony DV Application). Please wait while the files are copied to the system.
  18. At the "Question" box, click No.
    NOTE: The Readme file can be read at a later time by clicking Start, pointing to Programs, pointing to Sony DV Application, and clicking Readme..
  19. Restart the system.
    • Click Start and click Shut Down.
    • Select "Restart" and click OK.
The DVBK2000.EXE update file is no longer needed by the system. It can be copied to a floppy disk as a backup (if the card is reinstalled at a future date) or deleted.
