New Windows User Interface (UI) or Windows Store apps that require location information, do not open, close unexpectedly, or close almost immediately after being opened.

Location based Windows User Interface (UI) or Windows Store apps (such as Weather, Video, Maps, etc.) may not open, close unexpectedly or close almost immediately after being opened if the computer Time Zone information is not set, or is set inc orrectly.

To avoid or correct the issue, follow these steps to properly set the computer Time Zone information.

  1. Point to (but do not click) the lower-right or top-right corner of the screen, and then click to select the Search charm.

    NOTE: The Windows Logo + Q key combination will also take you to the Search screen.

  2. In the Search screen, type Control Panel, and then press the Enter key.

    NOTE: Because the Control Panel is a traditional Windows Desktop application, if you were not already there, the interface will change to the Desktop and the Control Panel window will open.

  3. In the Control Panel window, click Clock, Language and Region.
  4. In the Clock, Language and Region screen, click Date and Time.
  5. In the Date and Time window, click the Change time zone button.
  6. In the Time Zone Settings window, under Time zone, click the down arrow and click to select the appropriate time zone, and then click the OK button.
  7. In the Date and Time window, verify the date and time settings are correct for the selected time zone.

    NOTE: If the date and time settings are not correct, click the Change date and time button and correct those settings.

  8. Apps that require location information should now open normally.
