A Computer Can't Recognize a USB Storage Drive After it was Inserted to the Android TV

Applicable Products and Categories of This Article

A computer using a Microsoft® Windows® operating system or other USB device no longer reads or recognizes a USB storage drive or USB hard disk drive (HDD), if it was previously connected to the Android TV™. If you want other USB devices to recognize it, erase and format your USB storage drive or USB HDD through the Android TV.

Erase and Format the USB Storage Drive or USB HDD

WARNING! There is a risk of data loss. Create a back up before formatting.

  1. Connect the USB storage drive or USB HDD to the Android TV.
  2. Create a back up for the apps stored in the USB storage drive or HDD.
    1. On the supplied TV remote control, press the HOME button.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Under the TV category, select Storage & reset.
    4. Under Device storage, select the connected USB storage drive or USB HDD.
    5. Select Erase & format.
    6. Select Back up apps.
    7. Select the app to back up.
    8. Select Internal storage or Internal shared storage.
  3. Format the USB storage drive or USB HDD.
    1. Press the HOME button.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Under the TV category, select Storage & reset.
    4. Under Device storage, select the connected USB storage drive or USB HDD.
    5. Select Erase & format.
    6. Select Format.

Note: This formats your USB storage drive or USB HDD in FAT32 file system, which makes other devices recognize it. If you decide to store videos larger than 4GB, use a computer with a Windows OS.
