The two icons at the bottom center of the desktop are for a feature unique to the Sony Experia Tablet called the always-on-top Small apps tray. Image

IMPORTANT: The always-on-top Small apps tray is a feature specific to the Sony Tablets running Android version 4.0.3 (or later) operating system and is not available on tablets that have not been updated to Android version 4.0.3 (or later).

This feature allows you to launch and use several different applications and widgets in a small window without leaving the screen you are currently viewing. To launch the currently displayed application, tap the application icon in the always-on-top Small apps tray. Image

NOTE: By default, the Remote Control app is set as the displayed application.

To launch any of the other applications or widgets displayed in the always-on-top Small apps tray, tap the Small apps icon, and then tap the icon of the application you want to open. Image

NOTE: When viewing the icons displayed in the always-on-top Small apps tray, if you wish to view just applications or just widgets (as opposed to all applications and widgets), tap the down-arrow next to All and then tap to select the desired view option. Image

To add an application or widget to the icons displayed in the always-on-top Small apps tray, tap the Small apps icon, tap Add+, and then tap the icon of the application or widget you want to be displayed. Image

NOTES:

  • The applications and widgets presented in the Small apps tray are the only applications and widgets that have been developed to be used in a small window. Applications or widgets that are not displayed cannot currently be used with the always-on-top Small apps tray.
  • You can move the small app window to a different spot on the screen by using the Move icon. Image
  • Once a selected small app window is opened, some applications and widgets will allow you to change the small app window to full-screen by using the Full Screen icon. Image
  • If you receive a message that there are no remote controls registered when attempting to use the Small App version of the Remote Control application, make sure you have registered at least once device within the Remote Control application, and then tap the Full Screen icon to synchronize the Small App version with the full version of the Remote Control application. Once you have switched to full screen, close the Remote Control application and then tap the Small App version again. The two versions of the application are now synched and the registered devices will be displayed.
